By implementing the project, we aim to:
- Reduce dropout rates by engaging at-risk students in active learning through eSports games delivering PBL activities
- Boost interest in school subjects using innovative, game-based learning.
- Equip educators with skills and tools to deliver effective PBL experiences utilising Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) games
- Create safe, inclusive learning environments integrating SEL.
- Promote gender equality by increasing female representation in gaming.
Project activities comprise:
- Elaboration of methods for delivering PBL experiences through eSports games in Roblox.
- Creation of PBL specifications for transcribing PBL experiences to eSports scenarios.
- Elaboration of PBL challenges in eSports for the Roblox environment.
- Development of a Cookbook for practitioners to implement PBL experiences through eSports games in Roblox.
- A Roblox game setting, the XPLORE world and a set of visual resources.
- A portal to launch competitions
Main Results
- A cookbook for creating sports-themed games in Roblox using sports tactics to deliver PBL activities
- A Roblox game setting accompanied by a toolkit of visual resources to support the creation of sports-themed games
- A portal to launch competitions for schools in Roblox based on the project toolkit
Main outcome: Increased engagement in active learning for students aged 9 to 16 leading to a reduction in drop-out rates of students in at-risk situations
